by Dr. Philip S. Chua
There is always that special time of the year wherein people unleash their inner gluttons and feast as if there's no tomorrow. Since the author wrote this article during that season, he focused on a different topic (calories) rather than the usual what-food-to-buy's. Unlike food articles that make your mouths water, this one will make you conscious of what you eat. The author made this article understandable through specific details and definition of terms. He provided ways on how to find a person's Ideal Body Weight and Total Calorie Requirement and sample calculations of the two. The amount of calories one can burn through certain activities were clearly cited. He indicated corresponding calorie contents of food we usually love to eat. To make it less confusing, he organized the food he had listed into categories: vegetables, fruits, meat, oils, rice and rice products, sugars, carbos, menu dishes, and alcoholic drinks. He gave numerical data which made it easier for readers to picture out and understand the ideas he wanted to convey. It is well-structured; you cannot find insignificant and lost sentences. Overall, this is a good concrete article that will make you want to be calorie-conscious.

Indian Food
Spiciness is something Indian cuisine has been known for but it does not only stop there. Indian cuisine is composed of cuisines that vary in taste, color, and ingredients. The author successfully tackled on the diverse cuisines of India. Generally, this essay is an easy read because it is brief yet very informative. It has points that are well elaborated. The author did a good job making this article clear for readers who are not very familiar with India. He named some Indian cities/states and included the region where those can be found (e.g. North India, South India). Because of that, it was easier to imagine especially for those who are not good with geography. Although he mentioned several dishes that are unknown to foreigners, he listed some ingredients which somehow gave readers an idea on what the dishes are like. He tried to give descriptions on the distinct tastes of the food he mentioned. That probably answered the "How does it taste like?" questions of the readers. The author is considerate for he, as much as possible, explained with concrete details most of the terms and dishes he talked about.
